Hotels near Saadiyat Cultural District record sharp rise in searches
ABU DHABI – Abu Dhabi’s travel landscape is witnessing a sharp uptick as the long-awaited Zayed National Museum opens its doors, with new data from Expedia highlighting a notable surge in global interest.
Searches for Abu Dhabi travel have risen 15% year-on-year, driven significantly by long-haul US travellers who recorded a 40% leap in searches for December. The UK and France have each shown a 10% rise in interest, underscoring the global pull of the emirate’s newest cultural landmark.
An official from Expedia Group said the opening marks a defining moment for the region’s cultural tourism, adding that travellers are eager to be among the first to explore the institution. The museum stands as a tribute to the UAE’s Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, with an ambition to foster heritage, learning and national unity. Designed by Lord Norman Foster of Foster + Partners, the museum houses more than 3,000 pieces, with 1,500 currently on display, offering an expansive view of the UAE’s story through archaeological artefacts, immersive technology and contemporary installations.

The opening week has also driven increased demand for nearby hotel stays. Expedia data indicates several key properties have seen a notable spike in searches compared with the same period last year. Among the most-searched options close to the cultural district are Saadiyat Rotana Resort and Villas, Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi Hotel & Villas, Millennium Residences Saadiyat Island, The St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort, Abu Dhabi, and Jumeirah Saadiyat Island Abu Dhabi. These stays form part of the wider hospitality appeal that continues to grow alongside Abu Dhabi’s cultural offerings.

The Zayed National Museum now joins established attractions such as Louvre Abu Dhabi and the newly launched teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi within the Saadiyat Cultural District. The area will soon expand further with the upcoming Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi and Guggenheim Abu Dhabi.
